St Eloi Scholarship
About J. Russell St. Eloi
The J. Russell St. Eloi UA Scholarship Fund Society was established to keep alive the vision Mr Russell St. Eloi had, which was equal rights for all and affirmative action – a vision he fought for all his life. Through his dedication of over 50 years Mr St. Eloi helped further his vision and made the UA in Canada what it is today. Mr St. Eloi’s death in 2005 left us with the determination to start a scholarship fund which would contribute to the advancement of trades opportunities to those who would not normally be able to afford it. This opportunity will be offered to all Canadians in the hope of spreading Russell St. Eloi’s dream that all Canadians may enjoy access to meaningful employment, fair treatment and the ability to fulfill a career in the piping trades.
Message from The executive director
The J. Russell St. Eloi Scholarship Fund Society was created in Russell’s memory to continue the work of this great labour leader in Canada. We intend to carry on with the job that Russ started by promoting the values and things he believed in by giving people a chance at being productive members of society. Please explore this web site and consider a contribution to the Scholarship Fund. The fund supports individuals by granting scholarships under a four category system as follows:
– Scholarships to be awarded on the basis of academic achievement
– Scholarships to be awarded on the basis of individual need
Affirmative Action Programme
– Scholarships to be awarded with a view to correcting the under representation of woman and aboriginal people in the skilled building trades
– Scholarships to awarded in support of adult education where career transition is imposed on persons by circumstances beyond their control.
We strongly encourage individuals to apply and look forward to considering your request.
Thank you in advance,
A.D. Al Phillips
